Christian Hall is an Australian designer and maker. Originally trained in object and jewellery design at Sydney College of the Arts, Sydney University, he now runs a multidisciplinary practice that encompasses furniture and industrial design, sculpture and jewellery. Christian is currently the creative director of the JamFactory Jewellery & Metal Design Studio, Adelaide, South Australia, a position that he has held since 2009. In this role Christian designs and manages the manufacture of beautiful and useful things that contribute to the JamFactory product range, is lead designer and project manager on bespoke commissioned works and overseas a workshop education program. Christian is responsible for the development of the emerging designers that make up the team of the Jewellery & Metal Design Studio and contributes to training across a broad and demanding two-year program. Christian is an active independent design and maker whose work sits confidently at the nexus of art and design.

“My aim in design is to combine well-crafted process with the efficiency and good sense of available industry to produce work that makes a contribution to contemporary craft and design in Australia. I want objects to be able to capture a sense of delight in people. I believe a thing can do this in very pure and simple ways; through its physicality, its texture and weight, its spatial relationship, through its form and function, or via a covert narrative that can be referred to in its physical presence and yet remain elusive. I am driven by the collective energy of makers and designers everywhere.”
